Why ten stems and twelve branches create sixty pairs
The two sequences advance together while preserving polarity: Yang stems pair with Yang branches, and Yin stems pair with Yin branches. Their least common multiple is sixty, so the same pair returns after sixty steps.

Branches connect the chart to season and local time
BaZi months follow solar-term boundaries rather than ordinary lunar-month labels. Hour Branches divide the day into twelve traditional two-hour periods, while the Hour Stem is derived from the Day Stem.
