How Natal Aspects Are Calculated
An aspect is an angular comparison. The named relationship depends on a target angle and the calculator's allowed tolerance, not on a model inventing a connection between two planets.

The geometry behind an aspect
For each pair of chart points, a calculator finds the shortest separation on a 360-degree circle. It compares that separation with supported target angles. If the difference is no larger than the allowed orb, the aspect is included.
For example, two planets 92° apart are 2° from an exact 90° square. Whether the square appears depends on whether the square orb is at least 2°.

AstroZen includes five major aspects with fixed maximum orbs. These are product rules, not universal standards; another astrologer may use different tolerances or additional minor aspects.

Why aspect lists differ
Two calculators can agree on planetary longitudes but show different aspects because their orb tables, point sets, or aspect catalogs differ. One may include angles, lunar nodes, asteroids, or minor aspects that another omits.
- Compare exact planet degrees first.
- Check whether the aspect is natal-to-natal or transit-to-natal.
- Check the target angle and maximum orb.
- Check whether unknown-time points were excluded.

From geometry to interpretation
The angle and orb are deterministic outputs. Terms such as tension, ease, or integration are symbolic interpretations. AstroZen asks its report generator to cite only calculated aspects and blocks unsupported pairings, but the resulting narrative remains reflective rather than scientific diagnosis.
Method note: A smaller orb describes closeness to the exact target angle. It does not scientifically measure personality strength or future certainty.

Are tighter aspects always more important?
Many astrologers give tighter orbs more interpretive weight, but that is a tradition-level judgment rather than an astronomical law.
