Yes, birthplace can change a BaZi result when it changes the resolved instant or pushes the corrected local time across a pillar boundary. If two locations normalize to the same relevant interval, the visible Four Pillars may remain the same.

A birthplace field is doing more than printing a city name. It supplies coordinates and a time-zone identity. Those inputs help reconstruct what the recorded local clock meant on that historical date.

Four ways location enters the calculation

Location affects a chart through coordinates, time-zone history, daylight-saving rules, and the chosen solar-time convention. These layers should be resolved in that order so a longitude correction is not applied to an already incorrect civil time.

• Latitude and longitude identify the actual birthplace rather than a country centroid.
• The IANA zone maps that place to historical UTC offsets and rule changes.
• Daylight saving can add an hour on one date but not another.

When the chart changes

The practical question is not whether the correction is nonzero, but whether the normalized time crosses a rule boundary. Hour Pillars use two-hour branches; some date conventions also treat late Zi time specially. A one-minute crossing can therefore matter more than a sixty-minute shift that remains inside one interval.

How to compare two calculators

Enter the same date, recorded local time, exact city, and known time precision. Then compare the resolved time zone, UTC offset, coordinates, solar correction, adjusted date, and each pillar. A final chart alone does not reveal which upstream assumption differed.

Method note: If the birth record itself is approximate, a calculator should preserve that uncertainty instead of turning a guessed minute into false precision.
