Why today's UTC offset can be wrong
A modern city's current offset does not reliably describe its historical clock. Governments have changed standard offsets, daylight-saving schedules, and even which side of an international date line a place uses. A calculator needs a place-linked historical rule set.
AstroZen resolves a geographic place to an IANA time-zone identifier and uses date-aware time-zone software to interpret the local birth record. This is distinct from simply asking the user to choose UTC+1 or UTC+2.

The two DST edge cases
When clocks move forward, some local times never occurred. When clocks move back, a local interval occurs twice. Without a recorded offset or additional evidence, the same written time can map to zero or two possible instants.

Why the order of operations matters
First reconstruct civil time and its UTC offset. Then derive the zone's standard meridian and calculate any solar correction. Reversing those steps or applying today's offset can shift the result by an hour before longitude is even considered.

- Store the IANA zone ID and resolved offset with the calculation context.

What the calculator should show
A reviewable result should expose the local time entered, resolved place, IANA zone, UTC offset, coordinates, solar correction, adjusted time, and any ambiguity or omission. Showing only eight characters makes a historical-time error almost impossible to diagnose.
Method note: Time-zone databases reflect documented civil-time history, but old records and local practice can still be incomplete. Precision claims should match the available evidence.
